high school mission trip 2010

In 2008 storms devastated Iowa, beginning with the tornado of May 25, 2008.   On June 5, 2008 torrential rains began to swell the state’s rivers and cause reservoirs to overflow.  By June 14 major cities were under water, levees had given way, nearly all of the 99 counties were declared state disaster areas and 18 were declared federal disaster areas.  The flooding in Iowa was called the worst situation since Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast.

We will be helping to rebuild Cedar Rapids this summer by working with UMCOR (United Methodist Committee On Relief).  We will be driving from Granville to Cedar Rapids, IA in passenger vans.  For the duration of our trip, we will be staying at a local church in Cedar Rapids.  Our team will have access to kitchen and shower facilities for the week.  Interested students and adults should contact Mariah Wright.
