"To glorify God by helping students discover a real and personal relationship with Jesus Christ; to explore and grow in our faith together and seek out God's work and plan for our lives." |
Burnt Toast is the youth ministry of Centenary United Methodist Church in Granville Ohio. Why Burnt Toast?First things first, we call our ministry to middle and high school students (7th to 12h grades), Burnt Toast Youth Ministries. It's a silly, memorable name with a purpose. We feel that the culture today is focused on over-booking and over-scheduling our lives, especially teens. In this it's easy to get "burned out," to become just another piece of burnt toast. Burnt Toast Youth Ministries seeks to help students realign their priorities by putting Jesus Christ as their center. The bread imagery comes from John 6:35-40 where Jesus Christ refers to himself as the bread of life. Life GroupsOur ministry is geared around small groups, called Life Groups. Life Groups are a safe, familiar space where students can talk about life with an adult coach. The goal of Life Groups is to allow students a place to connect with each other and an adult who cares about them. Life Groups meet in area homes twice a month, usually around a meal, and spend time together in relationship and in a bible study. These small groups involve 5-8 students and are organized based on gender and age. If you think you would be interested in a Life Group, we would be happy to talk to you about finding your place in one. CIA (Christ In Action)In addition to Life Groups, we offer monthly opportunities for students to gather for fellowship and community service events. Our Mission TripsWe are also committed to serving our broader community through summer mission trips. For the last six years our middle school students (7th thru 8th grade) have worked with Jackson Area Ministries serving Jackson County, Ohio. Our high school students (9th thru 12th grade) have traveled to New Orleans to help with rebuilding the communities devastated by the 2005 Hurricane season, and we will be venturing to Iowa this year to help rebuild Cedar Rapids, which was flooded in 2008. |
