Friendly Faces

Nearly thirty years ago, we joined Centenary after moving to Granville from Texas. The reason for the quick transfer to the church was in large part because of the friendly welcome and the enthusiasm and strong faith that we witnessed among the congregation. We are still members because neither has changed over the years.  In the inervening years, we have seen the church grow in many ways. We have added facilities,  staff, and a third worship service all to better serve our congregation, community and the world. The breadth and depth of what we find here continues to grow and strengthen our faith.  We are happy our church offers such a wide variety of worship styles, programs for children, youth and adults opportunities to serve others. Won't you come join us and see for yourself?

I was looking for a church that was a community church, and I found at Centenary that ordinary citizens of Granville were leaders in the Centenary U.M. church.

I was also looking for a church that provided the opportunity for on-going study of the Bible and Christianity.  I found that Centenary has placed priority in providing opportunities to study and learn and to grow in our Christian faith.

I have been a member at Centenary for the past five or six years.  I have been active in our youth group, Cars Ministry, Youth Council, and other church sponsored events.  I have also been sound tech for the 9:20 service as well as our youth worship team.  The Church has been a large part of my life throughout the past years.  I have learned to be a more responsible person, and also learn how to manage my time better.  I have really enjoyed Centenary and hope that interested individuals come and explore the many opportunities that we have to offer.

In the Spring of 1974, Ken, our son David and I  were looking for a church that would be as familiar as our previous one in Mount Vernon. We were looking for a church family and a place where we could expect additional help in raising a rambunctious seventh grader. Our neighbors, John and Dorothy Randall suggested  a visit to Centenary. We soon felt that we were part of "the family" at Centenary and settled in as they say for the long haul.

The Centenary family has been all that we had hoped for including the nurturing of our young son, now 46. He enjoyed confirmation, student ushering, youth fellowship, marimbas and even percussion accompaniment. We served, like many others, on various committees, volunteered, attended Sunday School and Seminars and supported the church in general. Like many families,  people enter and leave, grow-up, circumstances and leaders change but the hope is always that we are led by our Christian beliefs. Our choice to join Centenary and be a part of what is happening in God's family at Centenary has always been one of the blessings of the Nihiser family.
